BSOD Scramble on startup

I installed Windows 8 on top of windows 7 without trouble, all applications and files worked perfectly. Updated drivers, re-installed graphics drivers (per upgrade adviser) and even ran perfectly for 2 days.

Restarting results in a scrambled blue screen. It is clearly trying to generate some kind of error on screen, but it is scrambled. Tried several system restore points ( had saved a few) and nothing. Restored an image of Windows 7 and tried again a couple of days later after insuring all hardware drivers were updated and the same thing. Runs perfectly fine after the upgrade but it is impossible to run windows 8 after powering down.

Every third attempt it would give system repair options; tried automatic repairs, safe mode with and without networking, low resolution mode . . . nothing. Command prompt works but don't know what to fix. Upgrade adviser gives no red flags and the system runs fine until trying to restart.

Intel quad core (older) 4GB ram and running off an SSD (updated firmware)

Any ideas, I am running out.
