Windows 8 crashed or something

My computer goes straight to an error message after the BIOS,
"The operating system couldn't be loaded because the system registry file is missing or contains errors
File: \WINDOWS\system32\config\system
Error code: 0x0000225"

chkdsk /r says there are no errors and sfc/ scannow won't run, says it was not about to start.

All this happened after I woke it from sleep, got stuck on the lock screen so I turned it off and on and at first it was stuck in an endless auto repair boot loop.

Hi ZenixNet. Have you tried booting with install disk to repair? I'm on my phone and can't look up, but look in tutorials section on this to make sure you don't lose installed programs or lose personal files first.

Hope that helps.

I tried the automated repair from the install disc and it still could not fix the problem. Is there a more manual repair or another type I can try?

I believe I have all my important documents but I still would like to avoid clean install if possible, but I fear that is my only option.

OK lets try to avoid install.
Can you boot in safe mode and get to system restore, if so go back to good times.

No beeps. The Dell logo appears, loads, then shows the Windows boot screen for a split second before displaying the error.

EDIT: Here is the error message I get - View attachment 10427

I have messed around with it some more, I think I will just go ahead with the clean install. :/ I got past the error and now it just BSOD.

EDIT: Went to try to refresh the PC, errors and it results in an error.

Sometimes that is the best way to go
Install software slowly, make sure there are no more BSODs, before you install the next group. This way you will know if it is your software that is causing the problems and which software in particular.

Agree. I think it to be good advice. Sometimes we get in too much of a hurry. Install the OS, run for a time, and make sure all is up to par. Drivers, which many seem to have problems with 8. Make sure updates are installed, etc. Run OS for a time before installation of other software.
