There's a wierd bug in win8 dreamspark edition. Iam not getting any notification (sound or display) about incoming email, even when it is allowed in options. Other notifications (messaging) is working correctly. Any thoughts?

Hello Penc0, and welcome to Eight Forums. :)

What email client program are you using?

In Windows 8, there is a new Desktop Mail Notification sound event in addition to the usual New Mail Notification sound that needs to be set with the sound you want. The default sound can easily be missed when played.

Hope this helps,

Iam trying build-in mail client in Metro, iam using there both Live and Google account, and still any sound or display notification there. For example, when someone send me message via facebook, messenger in Metro make audio and visual notification about new message.

Well, I thought i have it, but still not working after all. There was a option in mail -> settings -> accounts -> show notifications for this account, that i had turned off for both Live and Gmail account. I allowed that on each account, but notification is still not working. I hope this is just an issue with dreamspark version and will be fixed on octobers full version, becouse so far Iam more than pleased with new Windows 8

Unfortunately, I'm using the Windows 8 Pro RTM with it doing the same. :(

I just found this thread via google...
For me the notifications are working after "mail -> settings -> accounts -> show notifications for this account".
I have only tried it with my gmail acc, works for me.

I use: Win8 dreamspark 64bit german. I also have activated the messaging app and connected it with facebook. It sounds weird i know but maybe that had something to do with it...

Hi
I just joined a moment ago so I could post this.
I had the same problem - Since updating my new Win7 computer to Win 8 2 days ago, I noticed I was getting emails in my email client (Thunderbird), but not hearing the soundbite I'd assigned to it just a few days ago (Gene Wilder's cry of "It's Alive!" from Young Frankenstein), and Googled it for a solution - nothing concrete in any of the first 5 or 6 pages of links, so I tried a few things myself. Found a fix that worked for me, and wanted to share.
I did check and verify that both Thunderbird's options and Win8's Sound applet in the control board were set to use te sound bit, but I noticed that in the sounds tab form the control panel, only about 30% of the installed files would play from there, so that got me thinking that some WAV files might be in a format that Win8 couldn't play, and that was causing the problem; Win8 was trying to play the file, but not interpreting it as sound.
I downloaded and installed Win8 codecs pack from MajorGeeks site (being careful not to install the stuff that tries to piggyback into your system with the install, a tool bar, popup ad/coupon program, home page change, etc). Then I downloaded and installed the Win8 drivers for my audio chip from the HP site. Rebooted, and all seems fine now.
Hope this helps someone else. :D
