Links are not opening browser

My browser is not opening or launching when I click on a website link. I have to copy the link, open the browser, paste the link in and then launch It did work but has just stopped. My main browser is Chrome which is set as the default. My OS is W8.1.

Can someone help me restore this functionality please?

Double check in Default Programs below to make sure that Chrome is set as the default program for all of it's associations. Specifically URL.

According to your specs, you are running 8.1 and XP on a tablet ?

If Brink's rec is not successful, try to Reset or Reinstall Chrome. You will not lose any data unless you check delete if you Reinstall.

Interesting, if some what confusing.

1. Chrome says it is set to be the default browser 2. I have set Chrome to open 'all its associations' in Default Programs 3. In PC Settings, with its long list of extensions, Internet Explorer is shown as the default for webpages and I cannot change it (I dont use IE) 4. url is s shown as opening with what it calls 'Internet Browser' --- it does not specify which and I cannot change it. as I am only offered the option of selecting from the Apps Store. How do I get it to accept Chrome? And why did it stop opening Chrome just a couple of days ago. Setting it as the default has worked up to now.

(I think just being offered apps from the Store is very unsatisfactory. Will it change in W10 or is that to muchto hope for?)
