Windows Live Mail sends fine but does not receive

Suddenly WLM sends find but does not receive anything. I've made no changes. If I use a browser the email is received, but not in WLM. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64.

MS suggests that it's corrupt, but of course can't help me unless I pay them. I have tried to repair the installation but that doesn't work either.

Ok, never mind. It finally started working again. here's what I did: on the General tab of properties, I unchecked "include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing" closed WLM, THEN I did repair the installation, then I restarted WLM, checked the box and it finally worked.

This is now unsolved, I just can't get it to stay working. I've tried uninstalling it, cleaning the registry with c cleaner which apparently didn't work and re-installed and it worked at first but it won't stay working. I guess I give up, or only use it to send emails when I need it. That's really what I need it to do because the web version of my email won't let me insert pictures into the email body, only as attachments. So I guess I'll only use it for that, unless somebody knows a real fix for this?

What Mail Service provider do you have ?
If you can send but not receive then there is some problem with mail incoming port. Depend on Who the service provider is. Different port is used.

For Yahoo, the incoming port is 995
For Gmail, the incoming port is 993

For MS such as Hotmail, Outlook is setup for you automaticcally and use: HTTP server.

If you use any other Mail Service provider, you'd need to find out from them what port # to use.

In addtion,

1. Make sure your Windows Firewall as shown below:
   
2. Check for the latest firmware in your router
3. Power cycle your router (unplug the power cord, wait for 5 minutes then plug back in)
