Use Yahoo mail app with local account

I have a new W8 tablet. I want to set up a local account and add my yahoo email account to it. I don't want to have to sign in to a microsoft account to access my yahoo email. However, when I try to enter the mail app signed in via my local account, it always insists on my switching to a microsoft account. Is there a way around this?

Thanks

No. In order to use any Windows Store App, a Microsoft account is required. Since you have Tablet, I assume you don't have the desktop thing.

I don't know why you want to avoid MS Account thing. If it is about privacy then use one but don't store any email on Outlook.com or files on Onedrive. This is one way to use apps. Also by the way Yahoo Mail App on Windows Store is was removed by Yahoo. So I guess you can use the Windows Mail App for Yahoo.

I just want out of the MS enclave! I like W8 - have been using it on phone for a couple of years, but I don't like the way all the apps seem to be tied up in that way - it was partly to avoid that kind of stuff that I kept clear of iOS. There is a still a Yahoo Mail app (2015) in the Store and I've read somewhere that once you've installed an app and attached an email account, using your MS account, you can disconnect to a local account, and still access email, but I can't find out how to do it.

Another option is to install Live Mail from the Windows Live Essentials download for Windows 7, you can setup a pop3 or imap like Yahoo Mail in it, and sync from the desktop Live Mail program.

I don't understand why you feel like your trapped in ecosystem. In fact, Microsoft is just following Industry where Google you need a Google account, Apple you need Apple ID, BlackBerry you need a BlackBerry ID.
One good thing is unlike the others, Your Microsoft account does not tie you to particular operating system or phone.

I don't know what to say but in order for you to fully use Windows 8 and beyond you need to use Microsoft Account. You don't need to Microsoft Account services. As you stated you need to login to get your apps that you previously installed that were removed from the app store.
You may be right that you can install the Yahoo mail app but generally when a App gets pull, the app will soon have its API shut down after some time so your best bet is to use another mail client.

Also your making a big deal out of nothing, if you don't want to sign into Microsoft account. You have the option to use only desktop apps.
Is your tablet allow desktop installs? There might of been a workaround but probably after some time, it got patched so you are unable to do that. On top of that, you have to wonder about the future update to Windows 10 will be more tied to MS account or Azure ID for work.

Best mainstream Alternative mail clients is either Microsoft Outlook 2013 or Mozilla Thunderbird.
I don't recommend you installing Windows Live mail client since it is not getting much updates. The future plan for Microsoft is to bring Outlook as a Windows Store App in the Windows 10.

I also have yahoo account as my main account but I am having struggle in moving everything to my Outlook.com account. so I use both Outlook.com and yahoo.com and pay for $20 each for ad-free experience. I personally use Outlook 2013 x64 and I use Lumia 925 with Windows Phone 8.1 Denim.

The whole point of choosing a W8 tablet was to be free of ties to specific companies like Apple, Google etc. I hadn't realised that MS were doing the same thing. I probably would still have chosen W8, because it's a grown-up system, rather than a toy, like the iOS and Android tablets. You have access to the W8 desktop and can install proper desktop apps, as opposed to just cut-down 'modern UI' stuff (if that's the right term). However, I wouldn't choose to use desktop apps for day-to-day convenient use on an 8 inch tablet, for obvious reasons, which was why I wanted to get the Yahoo Mail client working with a local account. MS accounts are just too restricted in what you can do with them - I can't even have a name of my own choice for my account, which will be replayed in the welcome and login screens. It's really annoying - perhaps not on a global scale, but I want the same freedom to configure the tablet how I want it, as I have with a PC.

Sorry, How are Service accounts (Microsoft, Apple, Google, BlackBerry) too restricted?

Possible answer that I can think of is apps are tied to your account. On the other hand how can you purchase apps without an account.

Even if you can purchase without an account, then if you were to re-install the app you cannot since there was no information to know if you are allowed to install it again.

I find Local account so much restricted and so much less freedom. Like I said you are just going on a losing argument. There is a sub Forum on this forum all about this debate under http://www.eightforums.com/user-accounts-family-safety/

I find your reason not good. You can do whatever you want under a Microsoft account vs a Local account which you are unable to use the Windows Store.

You can use the MS Store with a Local Account.
I use a Local Account with Windows 8.1 and sign in to a number of MS Accounts separately. It is an option.

I sign in to the Web interface of Yahoo Mail, or use Windows Live Mail a free download which is part of the Windows Essentials package.
There are competing free products like Thunderbird.

The Mail App that comes with Windows 8.1 has some restrictions, from what I recall it would not do POP accounts, it may have been updated since I tried to use it.
