Lots of browser "Not Responding" and more

Over the past several days, what started as some "not responding" delays when loading many web pages has really made computer a bear (Win 8.1 Pro x64). Here's what I've seen:

- "Not Responding" delays of 10-15 seconds and sometimes a lot more at some point while loading or reloading many, if not most pages (Opera 12.17), but not IE, FF or Opera 27
- YouTube videos load black, with no context menu specific to the video (Opera 12)
- When opening Opera 27 and IE11, Yahoo.com (home page) sometimes shows as not available, tho working fine with Opera 12 at the same time. Haven't seen it with FF
- Task Mgr often showing large numbers of entries for Opera 27 and 12, including several for internet browser plugin wrapper for 12; when I've had to force close Opera 12, its entries remain and have to be manually closed
- Occasionally utiliies have delayed response or go dead and have to be stopped and restarted (e.g., Mailwasher Pro)
- a few other little hangups, such as tinypic.com not page loading file images completely after a (jpg) file itself has been uploaded.

Adobe Flash Player is up to date and I've refreshed winsock.

Background: My desktop computer was running great until a couple of weeks ago when the update from Comodo CIS 7 to 8 sent it haywire and required an in-place Win 8.1 repair install. Afterwards, everything seemed to work fine, although I had some problems with Comodo blocking a lot falsely, the fix being to change the settings to allow warning popups that I could override (it's set to cloud check). I think the the "non responding" started sometime soon after that, but disabling cloud checking when loading pages didn't solve it. My first thoughts have been about Comodo or Flash Player. I have posted on the former's forums w/o response yet. I uninstalled and reinstalled both versions of Flash Player for non-IE browsers with a reboot between, but that didn't solve it.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Update: Here's an example of a page that just was not responding, both initially loading and afterwards when I click in the address field: Worst rule in football wipes out Griffin touchdown | ProFootballTalk

Make sure up to date on all windows updates.

Run a Anti-Virus scan, try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, good scanner Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software
Delete your Temporary Internet Files. Corrupt temporary files can cause issues when your browser tries to load them.
Try disabling addons in browsers.

Reset your modem/router. Sometimes stagnant connections can cause a non-responsive issues.

Reset your browser. If disabling add-ons, running malware scans, and deleting temporary files still doesn't fix the issue, your last resort before reinstalling is resetting the browsers.

Another option reset your IP

Keyboard Win+X select command prompt (admin)

Now enter this command

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Press "Enter".

Reboot your computer

Sounds possibly that it is more then a browser issue, said about applications being unresponsive also.

I last rebooted about five hours ago, after running the IP reset, and then soon left it idle. Returning now, I've run into a few "Non Responding," at two sites, one listed below, plus while trying to write this post (three times), all with Opera 12. So I guess it will take some more looking into. If it weren't for other non Opera 12 instances, such as Mailwasher Pro's mail check running on and on right now, Windows 8 Manager being stuck initializing, and Shockwave Flash having crashed at Science says men are idiots - Salon.com for the second time, I'd have guessed it had something to do with Opera's 12's plugin wrapper.

Try other suggestions listed before IP Reset also. Meaning other programs are giving you issues, not familiar with Mailwasher but does access internet. Looking like Opera issue, try reset this one also. Why using 2 different versions, always use latest version of browser for security reasons, believe might used it to diagnose which version causing problems, but best use newest one of any browser.

Those pages loaded fine for me, but using Mozilla Firefox.

Yeah, I was trying to post earlier when things crashed. The way it looked to me this had to be a general problem, not Opera alone. Then I figured, what the heck, I'll try a repair install again, but it returned an error message that there wasn't enough room on the system drive. Which got me looking... Three weeks ago that SSD which had ~70-75gb used and 45gb free after the repair install now was showing 114gb used of 118gb. That alone could explain why there was a lot of stalling and crashing. Looking around, it turned out that 34 of that 40gb difference was in Comodo Quarantine's temp file in ProgramData, 1,229,974 files in all! I did some other maintenance along with deleting all that and will see how it goes.

Given the possible damage through all of it, I was still thinking about running the repair, but it keeps stalling out at 51-52%, just like before. Tried every trick I know, but couldn't get past it this time.* Last time, it took three days off x-c skiing and a Thanksgiving dinner to get the repair to run all they way through. Don't have anything like that planned this week, so I'll just have to see how my reduced SSD handles things.

In the meantime, there are Windows options that aren't responding to a mouse click off and on, a sure indication that somethingis fundamentally wrong.

Thanks for the list,

* See post 185: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a-20.html#post453008

UPDATE: Turns out the key variable in getting the repair install to run through is leaving the computer cold for some time, 6 hours this time (~60 hrs last time), which points to the Plextor SSD as the culprit.

Thought about Comodo being one of your issues, possible this software caused something to get corrupted (files). A lot of quarantined items sound to be too much space. When it alerted you of possible threats, didn't you look at them ? Sure the system was clean ? Why i also suggested Malwarebytes at time, seen from post you already had it on system.

Not really familiar with Comodo though.

From reading that other post, seems your best bet is to follow Brink's advice and do a clean install if you have a proper ISO of Windows 8.
See you originally upgraded from Win7. So not sure how it will go, but why keep trying this repair install which is obviously hanging on you too long, which again could be the drive, mattering to how old the SSD is this could be, because compared to HDD are differences to how they work and fail. Do have 2 HHD also. Your welcome...

I think my best bet now is returning the SSD to be checked under warranty. Since the only difference in the repair installs is genuine cold boot vs. computer running for awhile - restart or full boot - I'm assuming the Plextor's temperature is the key variable t until I hear otherwise. Given the choice between a clean install and sending the drive back, given another I can clone for the interim, I'll start with the latter.

What was Plextor's temps by the way, did you know, usually run cooler then HDD ? True if feel it is that and under warranty still, then do so. Know feeling sending something back, takes time to get back to you and anxious to fix the issue on system.
