Emailing resized digital images in Windows 8.1

When I access the dialog box headed "Attach Files" and choose the wording "Smaller 640 x 480", I then click on ATTACH at the foot of the box.

When I go back to the gmail page and choose the resized picture to send as an attachment, the size shown is an enormous size. Why not the reduced size?

I understand that Windows automatically resizes the picture to be sent in an attachment. So why does the picture not appear in its reduced size but in its original size on the gmail page? Is this normal? Will the picture be transmitted in its reduced size or in its original size?

hello I don't use gmail ,but why not just send it to yourself and see how it looks when comes

Gmail is just like any other email. Have tried sending the image to myself. The problem is that the ATTACH FILES DIALOG BOX shows the REDUCED SIZE as 64 KB but the image shown as an attachment in the email itself gives the size as 2000 KB.

My question is: Does this mean that the image has been sent as 64 KB or in the original 2000KB?

to the best of my knowledge, the file will not resize after its sent ,so it must not be reducing them before sending them

My thanks again. I guess I'll have to keep on experimenting until perhaps I'll manage to solve the problem by trial and error.

Hi there. If your scenario is not satisfactory, you may want to reduce the size in a picture program first. Paint would work well.

If so, you may want to create a folder, copy and paste your pics to that folder so as not to ruin the originals, then reduce them and send from the new folder.

Perhaps I did not make my problem clear enough, so I'll sum up: What I would like to know is, why does a reduced-in-size image that shows as, say, 64 K on the ATTACH FILES DIALOG BOX pop up on the sent email as of huge size, say, 2 MB ? Does this mean that the original huge size has been sent instead of the reduced size?

It's probably compressed to send, then decompressed when received is the only thing I can think of. Like an instantaneous zip method.

BTW, Which email client are you using in 8.1?

I think the email showing in your sent email list would not show as a resized file because it wasn't sent to that list,
if you try what I suggested before you will see how the files are sent ,and that is to send the file to your own email address, it will be sent and received by Gmail and should show the small size

I thought perhaps they were using Windows Mail with a Google account.

Reduce the size of the original image before attaching it to an email.

IrfanView is good for this.

Have reduced the image size by using the "magnifying glass" icon in Photoshop CS5.

I use gmail and Windows 8.1

I took down the original size from 25% to 8.33% and I saved the smaller size in my Pictures folder.

I emailed the reduced size to myself, but the picture I downloaded in the email I sent to myself gives the size as the big size again, i.e. 1.1 MB.

So, the smaller size never reached me, no?
