Not keeping login details

Ever since I upgraded from 7 to 8.1 the laptop has been progressively getting worse at keeping login details fort eh different sites I use regularly (like this one).

It is getting to be very very irritating to have to re enter my login detail when accessing forums Ebay etc etc
Have made sure I have saved cookies for the sites with CCleaner , made sure I have ticked remember this login and the site's remember this password but the problem like I said is getting beyond a joke.

I never had this problem with 7 and along with some of the other little niggles of 8.1 I am seriously thinking of reverting back to 7 although it does run slower.

It's just stupid IE, not Windows, Give another browser like Firefox or Chrome a try. there's tons of them, most better and more customizable than IE.

Very strange comment. At least in my case IE works as told in its settings, remembering my autologin to various sites when asked. Not to mention that although it's possible OP's issue is with IE, he really does not mention it or any other browser in his post:

Kari I have always used IE a part from trying Chrome a long long time ago and I have the current IE11 and this problem has only been with me since I upgraded from 7 to 8 then 8.1.
I have not changed any setting s in IE except that I make sure that Google is my default search page so it seems the problem lies within Windows??

Just because he didn't mention specific browser but blames Win 8.1 I had to assume that's what's he using. I dont have much problems with IE 11 either (maybe because I,m not using it much) but it does have some quirks by trying to be over protective. What drew me to FF is great number of addons and much better configurability. IE is actually part of the system and vulnerable to any changes to the system, specially when somebody is using programs like Ccleaner.

Oh forgot to ask, using desktop IE or IE as App (metro version) ?

As I mentioned, I have not nor have I had any issues with IE11 and passwords, as long as it has been properly set up:Only difference I can think of between your system and mine is the CCleaner; since i moved from XP to Vista years ago I have never again used any registry cleaners, mainly because they are practically useless with modern Windows operating systems.

I just went through the IE options and in the Credentials it lists some of the passwords I use but not others - I have about 8 all up I use regularly.

Now I always save the cookies for those sites when using CCleaner so why should this be going on??

Now I don't want to sound rude or ungrateful but I am not stupid and have been using computers for a very long time and have been a member of the 7 forum and this one for some time too and do not claim to be an expert at anything very much.
But my query was why were the passwords not being saved in 8.1 and I think it shouldn't really matter what browser one is using and that I expected someone to say well it depends on what settings you have in your browser not quibble over semantics re that browser.

I was not even remotely suggesting you don't know how to use Windows or browsers. I was clearly only pointing out that as for instance in my case saved credentials work exactly as I have set them to work, asking if I want them to be saved for each new site, and then storing them if I select Yes, it is only logical to seek the cause in what's different in our systems, at least consider this possibility.

That being said, you can check the passwords IE has stored in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Credential Manager.

Yep well I did just that a while ago and the only ting that was not ticked was forms and the Credentials manager I also checked in too but it only has three of about eight passwords I use on a regular basis including the 7 forum in particular.

When I go to my E-banking site, it does not even offer me to save password, neither do other browsers, must have something to do with certificates.

No but I will - thanks.

Use Chrome for passwords because as you login it says do you want chrome to remember your password? Click Save password. IE doesn't keep passwords.

Hmm well maybe it is because I have upgraded a 7 to 8.1 that it does offer me a remember message - but in any case it doesn't alwyas and on my main desktop I also get that certificate message too for my banking site so all in all IE does seems to hve it's little faults .

It's not because of windows version, it's because of IE 11, i think only httpS sites can keep passwords on it.

Yep I guess you are right mind you I have to use IE9 on the main machine because of my pay office (health department ) have only just upgraded from XP to 7 and because the health areas use Oracle and Java programs that will not run on later versions of IE than 9!!

I have some difficulties to follow this discussion now?

Windows 8.1 Update 1, Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17126. All passwords and login credentials kept and remembered, only exception being those few https sites that have prevented it which can hardly be considered as Windows' fault. Checking the code for these sites that do not offer saving credentials you always find autocomplete is turned off for that page in its code:

As autocomplete is the feature in IE11 that also takes care of remembering credentials, they cannot be saved on sites using code as above example or other methods in site code to prevent users saving their credentials.

My IE11 gives this every time the site itself does not prevent it:

As the time stamp name of the screenshot reveals, it was created just a few minutes ago. To get the screenshot I temporarily created a new account in one of Microsoft services and logged in to that service first time using these new credentials. As expected, credentials were saved.

Well Kari I now know that I am officially a geek as you so nicely put it and I know am not that computer literate as most though I do my best.

Plus yes I have done all those things and beginning to wish I had just put up with the crap as it happens.

I shall just leave as is - but thanks for the help anyway.
