Every time I close down IE11 in 8.1 I get a box telling me that there is a fault and IE will close down. This has only appeared in last 2-3 hours?

When I go online to find download to replace all I get is a pat on the back for 'already have it installed'

Did you try going to Control Panel / Programs and features / Turn windows features on or off and unmark Internet Explorer, reboot computer and than either install downloaded one or just mark it again. You should end up with brand new (and hopefully working) IE.

I played around with IE11 and somehow managed to removed the annoying crash reports, and its now working properly. BUT, if it starts again, I will follow CM's advice.
