Hi there
I'm sure this can't be a co-incidence. I recently booked a Hotel in Manchester UK for a few days using the well known trivago site and GOOGLE CHROME Browser.

I've used trivago lots of times and never had a problem -- they usually find you nice cheap deals - especially if you are a single traveller and want odd days. (Brittania Hotel in central Manchester -- 3 NIGHTS for 85 EUR (about 78 GBP) - can't complain. !! Normal price about 200 = 250 EUR for 3 nights.

However now using Google Chrome every time I get some ads offering me Hotels in Manchester - even if I'm at the other end of the planet.

Doesn't happen on any other browser and I've used the trivago site loads of times so it's not them either.

So I've reluctantly uninstalled Chrome -- I quite liked it but if it's going to look at the sites I visit and "suggest things" - then I'm afraid that's it.

I did like Chrome since it works the same on Linux, Windows and Android phone - but I'm not willing to put up with "Secret spying" on what I'm doing on my machine.

Bad one Google. I don't mind businesses trying to sell me stuff - BUT BE OPEN ABOIUT IT PLEASE.

Cheers
jimbo

I see here a new FF customer !!!
Didn't expect anything less from Google anyway. If you like Chrome's for it's looks, check FF 29 beta Download Mozilla Firefox - MajorGeeks
there should be a portable version too. Looks like they decided to make it look similar to Chrome.

From what I have seen this is a new way that google does it's searches, they are tailored for you (searches and ads) based on your previous activity

If you look near the top right after doing a google search, there might be 2 buttons, private results is the default and shows things based on your activity, clicking the non private results should give the original generic results/ads

Not sure how this links into the chrome browser, but if you are logged into it then they have access to more of what you are doing

Hi there.

I thought I already had checked off Private browsing -- but who knows what these people get up to.
Thanks for the info -- will re-check again -- pity in a way if they are doing this -- even by default without asking first -- I actually quite LIKE the chrome browser.

Google are rich enough to ASK people if they don't mind having their activity logged and suggestions made on past history -- and if they DO this google could at least offer say a 5% discount on your next decent size purchase or some sort of Cash back after nnn different searches or whatever.

I don't mind people making money -- but the SHEER Corporate Greed that seems to be prevalent everywhere -- there's no reason why making money has to be done in such a blatant and basically immoral way --If I steal stuff from a supermarket I expect to get punished -- Google stealing data from individuals is just as bad.

Cheers
