Solved Graphical Anomalies, mainly Firefox

EDIT 3:

Use nvidia 302.80 Windows 8 drivers. Appears to be fixed with using them.

Anyone else having graphical anomalies using Firefox?
It's tricky to explain but graphics go a little odd on Firefox's toolbars (and mostly just the toolbars)
Got an Nvidia GT 430 with the "8" drivers (though I'm fairly certain they are the same as the 7 drivers)
It does seem to only be Firefox (though at 1 point icons looked slightly funny in control panel)

It's no big deal really, just thought it was odd and was kinda curious if it was just me...

I'll try and clean vid driver install later (I installed over the 7 drivers post upgrade cuz like I said, I suspect they are the same drivers)

I'll post screenshots next time I'm on that computer too.

EDIT: Another thread just reminded me, Media Center suffers from these anomalies to the point where I can't set it up...
I shrugged it off as Media Center just not working (this is a beta build after all...) but now that I think about it, it may be related...

Yep, fixed it for me also. Does not seem to change the speed of web page loading so that's good.

I get them too. The "addons" tab background jumps from white to light blue to dark blue when I scroll it, the FF button (upper left) has a weird glitch on it that comes and goes, and addon buttons in the toolbar (like ghostery) don't display correctly either.

I've seen it in FF

I use buttons pinned to the "Menu" toolbar (shock! horror!).
They don't seem to get drawn properly.
If you swipe the mouse pointer over them, they go back to normal.

It happens in the W8 DP and W8 CP.

And I thought I was the only one. The min, max, and close buttons in the upper right corner can be completely blank at times and I have to guess where the correct button is. Thanks for letting me know It was not just a video card issue.

Har har! Glad to see I'm not the only one. Stevieray you did an excellent job at describing the issue! I couldn't find those words for some reason... As for min, max and close being blank, I've gotten that but I think my favorite was when I had 3 close buttons overlapping each other...
Any of you guys tried Media Center?
I'm insanely curious as to the root of this cause now that I know it's not just me...

After playing around with FF for a while I noticed a pattern to the glitches. Hovering over the weird tab (in the tab bar) or button (in the toolbar) fixes the problem, but as soon as the focus shifts (by clicking on a new tab or button) the glitches come back. My guess at this point is Firefox's XUL markup language isn't playing nice with WCP (.NET?? WPF?? I dunno...); whether it is the CSS, DOM, or JavaScript portion of XUL I do not know.

It is probably not too hard to write a little script for Stylish to temporarily fix most of the problems, but since FF started changing everything every friggin' six weeks I can no longer figure out how to do it... nothing I learned last year works anymore. Feh.

Edit: I see lehnerus2000 already figured the hover thing out. Hat tip!

Hmm so so far I am the only one with the media center issue... I've been gone most of the day and working on this problematic laptop for 2 days (upgrade issues, posted in another thread) so I haven't been on the desktop much but after dinner I think I'll post screens of both media center and firefox

I added a screenshot on the first post. It's not one of the more extreme cases (I just stumbled for about 10 minutes trying to create an extreme) but the bookmarks section is an example. Social networking sites case heavy cases of it too it seems.

I can't replicate media center, apparently it was only during the setup it occurred, because I had forgotten I finished the setup last night (photographic memories are great for remembering exactly what each button does, even when the all partially say cancel) and now it seems to be fine...

EDIT:

Funny story, I amazingly cannot find the HW acceleration option in 8.... Fascinating...

Yeah. As stated above this is from hardware acceleration in firefox, and specifically one with nVidia graphics.

Fix is to disable HA. It's there for me using firefox nightly. In Firefox Options - Advanced - General tab. Use hardware acceleration when available. Disable it. Restart browser. Gone.

Bug has been there for months. No one fixes it. NVidia and/or firefox. Thinking it is a bug on nVidias side. Shame you have to disable HA to get rid of it.

Turning off hardware acceleration worked like a charm. Thanks guys!

Edit: Since many folks use Firefox, maybe a sticky post should be written with the fix and an explanation, and stuck up at the top of the Browsers and Mail thread. At least until MS and Mozilla and nVidia get past the fingerpointing and decide to deal with it.
