Internet Explorer in Metro question

Hi folks,

I've finally made the jump from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, and because Windows 7 forums were so helpful, I've signed up for Windows 8 forums. So please forgive my raging noobness.

My question is: I've noticed that when I access IE through the Metro interface (i.e. black bar at bottom), it always seems that the browser is already connected to the internet. Is Metro IE always connected? There doesn't seem to be a close button, and whenever I access IE through Metro, it will be on the last visited webpage. I'm just concerned from a security viewpoint. Anything to worry about?

Hey mate, welcome to these forums!

It isn't anything to worry about. Windows will automatically suspend your apps when not in use, and eventually even close them. You can manually close them by moving your mouse to the top of the app, click and hold, and drag all the way to the bottom. Your app will get smaller, and you can 'throw' it away.

I love windows 8, but even now I prefer the regular Desktop IE.

There is rumor that windows 9 will be a free upgrade from 8.1, and that it will include the option to close apps with the click of a button...

Additionally, you can see if bandwidth is being used via the task manager. Keep in mind that other items use bandwidth too, like auto-updates, programs for updates, etc.:

Cheers for the reply dust sailor. Do you know if I can delete Metro IE history via the normal desktop internet properties delete browsing history functions?

I think it used to be that the two IEs were separate and didn't sync up, but I'm pretty sure that is no longer the case. Simple way to find out. Look up something, and delete history. then try looking it up again in IE App. It should no longer be present (unless it is a Bing/etc. suggestion).

Yes, I just tried deleting history in Metro IE and it also deleted desktop IE history, so I assume it works the other way around. Thanks again!
