Firefox 26 ignores update settings

I always have browsers set to check for updates(manually) but let me decide to download/install etc..

I can't remember Firefox honoring this setting recently. Since 27.0 was just released I manually checked for updates. It did not say "new ersion available what do you want to do?" Nope. It said "Downloading..." so I killed it. Net time I ran it I get "restart to install" so I have to do it or the program will be corrupted.

I wonder what would happen if I left it on automatic? I'd probably find out I made a down payment on some Florida sink hole.

Thanks for that Miles, I hadn't realized Version 27 was out. :)

I am the same about setting how any program updates. Although for browsers I typically leave the auto setting alone. If I change it, I'll be stuck with an outdated version.

It should notify you and give you the option. But I notice this a lot lately.. these "free" programs have so much competition that they just change your settings silently and you have to live with it. It's like you need a settings change monitor running to keep them honest. There's likely a FF AddOn to keep the setting at manual.

There is "Mozila Maintenance Service" in services that you can disable and could also be uninstalled as a program from "Programs and Featiues. Needles to say I'm not a fan of any Automatic thingies running around my system.

All extensions are compatible. Not by default, but Nightly Tester Tools add-on takes care of it all. I temporarily added the Menu bar (I do not use, but to get to settings for NTT, you need it) back to make the screenshot to show:

Yes, I think there are x64 versions made and available. (Maybe only for Linux though - not sure.)

Not too sure about Protected Mode because I don't ever use anything like that.

Here's the ftp address for all Mozilla releases: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org

Aurora directory: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/2014/

Edit: Seems to be x64 here. Version 30 even too https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/

o.k.
So Aurora 64-bit works
It runs in privileged mode without user intervention.

But Status Bar is gone! I wonder how can I access status bar only add-ons.

I'm not running any services. The category is blank. I've seen this before. If you have "ask me" set in whether to install updates and manually check for updates using the About Firefox in the Help Menu.. it will just download and install the update without asking, if one is available.

Click the Open Menu icon as seen in the top right of the screenshot of this post.

Go to Customize. If the icon shows in the main screen for the add-on(s) you're missing that should be in Status bar, drag it or them to right of the address bar (near the Open Menu icon). You can order the icons too, if you want.

You can even drag icons over while customizing, to put them right in the Open Menu screen (when clicked, as in screenshot.)
