Bug with Outlook Metro app?

I notice when using the Metro version of Outlook that when I open Outlook it always marks the first email as being read. Sometimes I will need to keep emails marked as unread so I end up having to go back and mark emails as unread before closing Outlook. Anyone else have this problem?

There is an option that stops mail from being marked as read when it is clicked, or when you open the Outlook app.

  1. In the Outlook app, press the Windows Key + C.
  2. Highlight and select Settings.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Turn off "When an unread message is selected, mark it as read."

That will sort out your issue. It's not a bug, just default behaviour.

If you want specific email to show up as read, you can right click it and select 'Mark as read' from the bottom bar.

Yeah but with that option I would need to manually turn each new email as read. That's not the problem. The problem is always the first new email.

That is the only way I think is possible to do what you want.

I think it's unlikely a feature that resolves this will ever be added in the near future for such a small thing.

If they introduce a feature to disable the reading pane, then that would solve it, as it doesn't count as being read until it is clicked.
