Has W8 abandoned index.dat files?

I didn't find any on my HD. Kind of unusual since even if I deleted them, they were recreated in W7 and earlier. Is the tracking job done some other way? Anyone hear anything?

For those who don't know MS used to/still does store info about places on the internet we visit. It used to create files named index.dat with this info. Call me skeptical but are we to believe giving up creating these files is giving up on the logging?

Looks like they've become container.dat, don't know if they serve the exact same purpose.

Strange. Mine are all zero length. I never deleted them. Unless CCleaner is doing it.

Edit: I do have it checked to delete index.dat in CCleaner.
