IE 9, 10 and 11 does not open web pages full

I have had this problem with all 3 versions of Explorer. If I open a website, as an example RUN: www bing.com the pages open full screen. If I use the shortcut on the desktop it opens short about 2 inches on the bottom and another weird thing is that I have a PC right next to this one, the page will open short about 2 inches on the right side of the screen. I have had to resort to Firefox and I have no problems at all.

I am running Win 8.1 on one machine and Win 8 on the other. I had the same problems with XP and Win 7.

I sure would like to get to the bottom of this!!!

Thanks!

IE remembers the size of the last page open from a shortcut after you close IE. You should be able to set the shortcut to open maximized in which case you should always get a full-screen windows each time you use it.

I have always thought that was the case, but I have found it not to work. There are several ideas out there, like drag the window to full and then hold down the Ctrl or Shift key and then click on File and then Exit and it will take care of it, but again I have never found this to work. It is funny, any shortcuts made from loading a program they work fine, but like Bing which is chosen to be your search, does not work and there is no way through that shortcut to tell it to open maximized. Click on Internet Explorer on the Task Bar opens MSN just fine.

It is not a big deal because I have Firefox that is working just fine, but I have an inquisitive mind and would like to find what is going on....

Its funny you mention that. I could never get it to work either even if I set it to open full window in the shortcut properties. Notepad is another. Some others too.

WinKey/up arrow does the trick. :)

I forgot that key combination, but I don't think we should have to do that. Just my opinion, after all that program is part of the OS.

I agree. We shouldn't have to. Never understood that unless we're missing something.

Funny... On my Dell Laptop, 8.1, when I use that combo it switches me from desktop to the "Charmed" Start Page!!! Apparently this cannot actually be used on 8.1. Alternative combos, ideas, or ways to defeat the issue of the IE window opening up in a minimized version? How do I get to the shortcut settings on Win 8.1? THANKS!

Welcome to Windows EightForums, MyaVT.

Are you saying that when you use the WinKey/down arrow it takes you to the start screen? If so, a Dell shortcut key program may be overriding the Windows system? Either that or the keyboard driver may need updating? The only things I can think of.

No. I am saying that when I use the WinKey/UP arrow it takes me to the Metro Start page! Very annoying. I got IE 11 to open to full size from desktop only, by adjusting the properties settings as others had suggested. However, anytime I do the "open in a new page" command, it opens at half-mast. Shrug...?

In 8.1 WinKey plus arrow key is for Modern/Metro app snapping and Desktop programs windowing. In 8 (If i remember correctly) it was Ctrl/Arrow keys for the same. I know in 7 it was Ctrl/Arrow keys for windowing.

Something has got to be wrong. Do you have a program called DellTouch installed on your laptop? I found this: How to Program Hotkeys on a Dell Laptop | eHow

Thank you so much Gypsie! This is great info for me. I'm just in the process of forgetting everything I ever knew, and "WHOOPS!" everything changes! LOL

As far as Dell Programs, I didn't cough up the cash they wanted for continued licensing, so a 6-month old lap top has no functioning Dell connections of any kind. I forgot and tried to use the Dell Touch. I was quickly reminded that "no valid license" could be found. It's quite "irksome" that Dell just cuts off all support like that. HP doesn't. Acer doesn't. Anyway...

I was able to get the IE 11 window to consistently open from desktop maximized. I used the technique of going into the properties of the desktop shortcut & the Start Menu shortcut. IE still opens minimized when it opens from itself during browser use (the "open in a new Window option). I don't know the cure to that one!!!

Again, thank you so much for correcting me on the use of the short cut/hot keys!!! I actually got the instructions I had from a very reliable tech site. Must be they were VERY old!

Be Well. Take Good Care;
Mya
