64bit Chrome Browser

For the x64 die-hard fans, we have a new native Win64 browser on the list.

The official "pack" from Google still provides the 32bit versions.

However Chromium browser (developer) builds are now available for the Windows x64 platform.
For those who want to give Chromium x64 a shot, compare with other 64bit browsers: IE11, Pale Moon, Opera... there is a link below.

Note:
This is a 64bit (x64) version and will not work on 32bit (x86) Windows.
(32bit packages are found everywhere as it's the default version)

I'm using Chromium x64 as we speak.
Version 33... Flash and all my extensions work fine.
This version uses the same setting and profile your regular 32bit version uses, So settings will not be lost. I still keep a 32bit installed version in "Program Files (x86)".

mini-installer(exe) --> will install locally for the user, can be extracted and contains 7z archive for manual installation
manual-install(zip) --> can be installed manually (for all users) by extracting the folder and placing it in "Program Files" (not x86 this time)
*the download package is still named win32 but that's just in the name, not the executables...

The other known x64 browsers on Windows at the moment include: Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox flavors like Pale Moon, Cyberfox, Waterfox.

Just a note - this is not "Chrome". Read the "Main Page" linked above to see it's relationship to the actual Google Chrome browser.

Most notably to me is the fact that there is no auto update mechanism for this browser. I would expect it is behind "Chrome" with respect to it's vulnerability to various security flaws, which are constantly and invisibly patched in "Chrome".

Still, it might be fun to check out and it will give you some geek street creds to be using it!

This is a more technical post mentioning that x64 Chrome or some variation of it is being made.

I honestly don't care it doesn't have all the google flavors bolted in as long as it runs fast, runs well and it's safe to use.

Yes indeed. This is the base of Chrome but not entirely Chrome because you miss the logo colors, some plugins and the update system.

As I said, give it a try or don't use it at all. Personally I don't like Chrome's update mechanism that just fills the harddrive keeping all the older junk versions too. I manually update it (can be daily) so there's no flaw there if I miss it, depends on your patching preferences.

True. That's just the way it is!

So far, the current version runs fine, I don't have many plugins but all sites behave normally.

The developers do expect issues with some plugins since the x64 version is far from mainstream, and plugins are meant for the 32bit version, I'd say it's experimental but that would scare some users off. But heck we're talking about a version that's at least two steps ahead of the stable release anyway.
