More IE 11 problems in Windows 8.1

Hi All,
This is my first post so please bear with me and if this has been talked about can you direct me to that section.

I'm having issues with IE11 that I keep getting a message that says "Cannot Display this Page".
I have read a lot of things about how to fix this but it just keeps reappearing. It is very annoying to say the least as
I do all the refreshing and resetting as per all the things I have read and it still happens.

Can anyone tell a more permanent fix (if there is one that is).

Cheers
Gary

Hi Gary,

Have you tested other browser to make sure it is specifically an IE 11 issue and not just a general internet connectivity issue? If so, please provide any additional testing details so we don't try to "reinvent the wheel" when offering additional things to try. Good luck.

Hi,
No I haven't tried any other browsers and up until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I never had an issue so to go down the path of say Mozilla or Chrome never crossed my mind. Maybe that is the next step.

Try FF24 because that works perfectly for me.

Not quite sure what you mean specifically but you just install it, select the option to import bookmarks, and you may get prompterd to install flash at some later point in time. Other than that, you have similar IE options to set in the options view:

Download Firefox ? Free Web Browser ? Mozilla

Hope this information has been helpful and good luck to you.

I keep getting a message that says "Cannot Display this Page"

Like this picture ? Got a dead IE11 here as well (thought I'd fixed it be disabling and re-enabling IE11, but no luck). Other browsers works perfect.

Although not using IE for anything important, would like to it work properly, so suggestions welcome (and btw, the usual IE ugly fonts clearly showing up in the snip). No help in compatibility view, cache clearing etc. May work a little later after trying refresh a few times, or rewriting the site name with or without www in front. If not giving the 'cannot display' it opens a bing search result instead of the site.

Update: after going through the suggested "disable\enable\clear this & that", compatibilty, restart and pray, refresh etc etc finally came to the conclusion to search elsewhere.

After looking at how IE11 behaved, went to network properties and changed the IPv4 DNS from automatic to using Internet Security or DNS Service for your Business or Home - OpenDNS. That made the difference. Problems vanished, stock IE11 settings. Even managed to post this!

Maybe IE11 got some 'improvements' that some DNS servers cannot respond to? For those with the 'This page can't be displayed' problems (and any other browser working fine), worth trying an alternate DNS. Good luck.

Thanks, that OpenDNS solved part of my problem...
Other problem is that JAVA is incompatible with IE 11. so that's a major problem as well. (Plugins are not working)
so JavaScript websites will not work properly, and it's asking to save .json files

I'm about to go back to V8.

So the "can't be displayed" gone? That's very interesting. Let's see if there will be more reports about changing DNS fixing connection problems.

JavaScript websites will not work properly
JavaScript works fine here, no addon needed. Dealing with java programs is another matter, needs the Java download\install (for the few sites needing it (banking here), tested Java 7.45, no problems using IE11).

Check the Security settings, if Internet zone set to 'High' it will disable javascript. In case some experimenting has been going on and settings changed here and there, before doing anything else am recommending to reset IE to default (Internet Options > Advanced > Reset) and take it from there.

All comments here relate to desktop IE, am not using the (cr)app.

edit: am currently using this DNS Comodo Secure DNS, Managed DNS Service, Secure DNS Provider, works fine and maybe provides some additional security.

Look at the addons and same with the other one.
Some websites asking me what to do with json files (file type)
so I am guessing it has to do with this?

Other problem is that JAVA is incompatible with IE 11
AFAIK (and by practical experience) java & javascript are both very IE11 compatible. It's only the extra addons (socalled 'Helpers') which are not compatible (rather not allowed, one can get them enabled by changing settings in IE security, see snip from W8.1\IE11), but they are not needed for java to run, and javascript don't need them either. So, am believing the SSV \ 2 SSV plugins are in no way related to your problem, but cannot give any more hints. Google these 'helpers' for additional info.

Am still interested in reports if anyone does test an alternate DNS if experiencing problems accessing websites with IE11.

I wonder what security, cause I set them all to minimal and its still the same problem.
I even can't get rid of the Security message, that Java applet will not be run.. and at the bottom I need to select "Alow once"

How about clicking the LINK and you will SEE what you need to type.... Or do you need a book for how to click a link as well? :p

Options > Advanced > uncheck 'Enable Enhanced Protection Mode'. This will make it possible to enable the socalled SSV helpers, but I doubt these will have any effect regarding your java problems, but maybe worth trying this as part of an elimination method.
