IE11 X-64 RTM Back Navigation not working properly

    Hi there

    Example

    1) in Google search say GODZILLA
    2) after linking to page - the back button just displays a blank screen

(Now I'm not sure if this is in configuration - but it never worked like that before -- I got returned to my Google search query).

    screenshots shown.

    Cheers

Yepper! I was able to recreate your exact issue and it somehow seems to be tied to the combination of the Google search results, then clicking thru, and then trying to use the back button. Good find!

I have been unable to duplicate what you are seeing.

I am using IE 11 Windows 8.1 Pro RTM x64 as well.

The back button works as expected and when I right click on the back button, I can seeing the history of sites as well.

I have checked this on two different systems.

    Hi there
I'm running on RTM W8.1 ENTERPRISE

It might only be a GOOGLE problem

On BBC website Link to another (external non BBC site) and back works OK -- might just be GOOGLE queries - I've tried GOOGLE.CO.UK instead of GOOGLE.IS same problem. Tried GOOGLE.BE as well - also same problem.

So it look like a GOOGLE problem. Some other sites might exhibit this as well but so far OK.

Anyway that's what tests are for !!!

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Cheers

I am running Win 8.1 Pro RTM (finalized) and I have no problem recreating that issue 100% of the time. Here's how I did it:

Go to google and search for GODZILLA.

Click the wkipedia link in the search results.

    Let this page fully display:

Now simply click the browser back button:

See problem above. It may be also important to note that I am not using tabbed browsing.

    Hi there
with google you have to click the back button TWICE - that's also the problem - the back button should take you back to your query list.

You get the Blank screen -- hitting Back again brings up your google query list again. Shouldn't work like that.

You have to go back twice because Google uses a redirect. When you click a link, it first takes you to a special google page that tracks your link click, then it redirects you to the actual page. So that's two requests, that's why you have to go back twice.

Normally, you don't see this.. but if your cache becomes cluttered, it can start causing some issues.. Try clearing your cache and see if the problem persists.

    Found a workaround!

    Hi All,
    I don't have a fix but I believe I have found a workaround of sorts (this using IE 11 Windows 8.1 Pro 64);

    1. Open IE
    2. Press F12 or select 'F12 Developer Tools' from the Tools menu. This will open a window called 'DOM Explorer' (you can unpin it and leave it open in the backround)
    3. As long as 'DOM Explorer' is open the back button issue goes away??

Hope this helps. I have no idea why this should work. Maybe someone who know this stuff can explain it.

    Regards

I can replicate OldDrongo's result in IE11: the problem disappears if you click F12, then re-appears if you click F12 again. But this obviously isn't satisfactory as I don't want to give up valuable screenspace with the F12 window open all the time.

"Mystere" is right about the problem occurring because Google uses a redirect, but clearing the cache isn't the solution. I tried this and then searched on Godzilla; I got the same results as "my2cents", clicked through, clicked back and got the blank screen. Then I clicked back to the Google Search results page, then clicked forward, and got the blank page again.

    i.e.
    1. https://www.google.co.uk/#q=godzilla
    goes to
Godzilla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and you can see the redirect blink through if you watch closely.
    2. click back
    http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct...o1sGLVntHw-eFQ
    3. click back again, and return to Google Search results.
    4. If you repeat the cycle and click F12 at any point, it breaks the process.

    A right pain . . .
It doesn't happen in Yahoo because it opens a new tab when you click a search result. Doesn't happen in Bing.
