If they are shortcuts, change the icon before pinning to Start.

Hello David,

Thanks for your reply.. I am talking about metro tray's icons image not in Desktops icon. I can easily find the target location of Desktop Icons, but just want to know how to find the target location of Metro Tray's icon?

I am not sure if this is what you are asking. From the Start Screen, right click on the Icon and you should see a check mark then on the bottom, click on open file location

Once you locate the shortcut, right click on it->Properties then do the above (post #4) to change the icon.

Here's the steps from start to finish:
  1. Create a shortcut for the webpage by first opening the page. With the left mouse, click and hold on the icon in front of the address and drag it to desktop or where ever you want as shown in the screen shot.
Note: to be organized, normally you'd want to save the shortcut under:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Where the rest of the shortcuts are stored in Windows.
  2. Right click on the newly created shortcut->Properties->Change Icon
  3. In order to pin this Shortcut to the start screen, you need to download: WinAero: Pin to 8 and run it. Click on Pin a file, select the shortcut then click on Pin To Start

Unfortunately WinAero: Pin to 8 does not work with the upcoming Windows 8.1 update according to the Web Site -

WARNING! The Pin to 8 application will not work properly witn Windows 8.1 RTM. Microsoft has disabled the programmatic access to Start Screen items pinning. This is impossible to fix.

You might want to try - Obly Tile - which works with Windows 8.1 preview and hopefully Windows 8.1 RTM. You will need to create your own images (icons) for the shortcuts you create.

Thanks for your reply topgudcp & jladwig..

Actually browser shorcut not allow to show the properties..
There are some application's available in store for Youtube, yahoo mail, facebook and google etc. I downloaded those.. Maybe that's why windows may not allow properties for site shortcuts.. :) Anyway my concern is solved..!!
