Thunderbird Notifications - Windows setting?

I was just wondering whether Windows would control how Thunderbird sent desktop notifications?

If I email a message to the account set up with thunderbird it appears instantly(ish) in the programme but if I'm in another programme and send a message I don't get any pop up notification from thunderbird....

Hope I've phrased this OK!

cheers

To receive new incoming mail notifications from Thunderbird:

Thunderbird must be running in the background (I run minimized).
Thunderbird must be set to check for incoming emails periodically (I think the default is every 10 minutes).
Optionally, I would set the Taskbar to show the Thunderbird icon and notifications.
Once done, a new incoming email will show a visual and audible alert.
Note: This notification will not be instantaneous because it is dependent on the query interval.
I just tested it and it works fine.

From the Tools Menu (at the top) Go to > Account Settings > Server Settings and set the interval:

Changed it thanks! I seem to remember my Mac Mail being instant, but maybe I'm imagining things....

Well, it actually is instant; in that, once the query is initiated, and the new email is downloaded, the desktop notification follows quickly. Just remember that Thunderbird is a 3rd party program and it has to be running to initiate that query at the designated intervals. Unfortunately, I have no experience or knowledge of Mac Mail so good luck to you!
