Solved IE 10 Favorites

I cannot add new links to my favorites folders anymore. cannot recall changing anything in IE.
when I try to add a link it gives me an error that simply states that it cannot add it to internet explorer.
could someone assist?

Hello Larry,

Is this happening with the Metro or desktop version of IE, or both?

By default, your favorites for IE are saved in the "C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites" folder. Did you move this folder's location, or change it's permissions?

Double check using OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to see if your Favorites folder still has a "Location" tab in it's properties page, and that it's still located in the default "C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites" location.

Thanks for responding Brink;
this is from the desktop. I haven't figured out how to work that one in Metro.
short history. New desktop AIO. then I did an upgrade to 8 Pro all went well but did have to register it by phone.
When looking at properties in Favorites, Security, there is
Account Unknown (s-1-15-3-4096
SYSTEM
larry Chisholm (my e-mail address)
administrators (larrysAIO/administration)
I believe that Unkown up above has control as all the check marks are heavy black
the other three show the same check marks but not highlighte
I did copy over the favorites folder from my backup to the new one created when setting up the new desktop.

when in properties in favorites I remember seeing c:/users/larry/favorites.

The main thing is that "System" and your user account has "Full control" and all the others checked in permissions for the Favorites folder.

I can add a link to favorites however a folder inside of favorites say larrys links it comes back access denied so it seems there is a problem with the folder?

As a test, use the tutorial below to add "Take ownership" to your context menu.
Next, right click on your Favorites folder, and click on "Take Ownership" to see if that will help with this permissions issue.

I did the download of take ownership
ran the file to add to the registry
then ran it against Favorites
then ran it against the folder larrys
but still cannot add any site to the folder access denied

I created a new folder and it worked just fine.
I will copy the several folders and cut and paste the links into the new ones

Since creating a new folder did the trick, then the other one may not have been set to be used as the favorites location.

I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.

Brink I went in to it further and none of the links in the folder would bring anything up.
that was from a backup of folders just before moving them into my new AIO.
