Windows 8 Consumer Preview 32-bit & 64-bit
Google Search Provider
Anyone else noticed that IE10 doesn't allow Google to be installed as a Search Provider (despite it being arguably the world's most well-used search engine)? The list, part of which is shown below, is in alphabetical order and, as you can see, Google is not mentioned. I should point out that this list does take a while to populate, and does, on occasions, come up with a Service not available error.

I agree, it's absurd. Especially when you consider some of the ones that are listed: ant1online.gr, bidorbuy.co.za, T3 Search (to name but 3). I can't begin to wonder what sort of results they would come up with for some of the searches many of us do here on the Forums. I shudder to think what another of the listed providers, Tesco Search, would come up with. Just imagine you're looking for Apple, perhaps for QuickTime support. I can see Tesco coming up with its range of apples (the fruit variety) instead.

What do you mean? I can add google as my default search engine just fine in the desktop IE 10 on Win 8. Just enter google in the search field at the near top right hand side there.
Might also change the language at the top right to United States (English) if google still doesn't show up.

Guy, I had to scroll all the way right several times on the search providers page to finally hit Google, and that page takes forever to load. BTW, I could never locate google search for IE9, don't know whether its just me. So on win7 machines, I install google toolbar which sets google as the default search provider, then uninstall the toolbar.

Yep, I realise that you can enter Google in the search field and access the provider that way, but why isn't it listed on the main page? Some people won't think of actually searching for it. MS really need to address this issue (and that of the page being slow to load or failing to load), especially when you consider some of the searchers (cough, cough) that they have included.
