Thunderbird malfunctions on W8

I can open all folders on the left pane except one of them. This is one of user created folders for archiving received emails. There are several other folder for the same purpose. I wonder why this particular one can not be opened.
What I have done so far includes compacting files, reinstalling the Thunderbird and trying on other W8 machine.. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I use Thunderbird on all of my Win 8 rigs and I have not run across any issues. If you give me a screenshot, I can try and replicate the issue. I really need to see your structure before I can assist any further.

On the following screen shot, the bottom folder is the one I cannot see sub-folders in it. I can have contents displayed for all other folder. The problem folder is the only one that has sub-folders. So for experimental purpose, I created a sub-folder in the second one from the bottom. Result is I can see the newly created sub-folder but cannot see its contents.

Thought I could help but I can't because I cannot replicate your issue. Also, I don't understand why you chose "trash" as the parent folder to archive your files. Moreover, I don't understand why some folders are in English and some are in a different language so I wouldn't even know where to start. I can't create two different language folders in my Thunderbird application. Good luck.

I knew you wouldn't be able to replicate my issue but thought you might be able to suggest something to help.

I am not using the "Trash" as a parent folder to archive files. I wonder what made you think that way.

Japanese language is enabled in my W8 so that I can use English as well as Japanese. I tried Japanese language version of TBird but it was no cure. I am beginning to suspect that the issue is related to using a language other than English. The problem appears due to TBird's being not compatible yet since there is no such issue on W7.

My mistake. I thought the arrow was pointing down. Sorry about that. OK; works fine for me in an all English environment. I have no suggestions other than to try everything in English (if you can). Hope my testing has added some new insight or (at least) confirmed some of your suspicions. Good luck.

Here is a screenshot of my profile where the information resides so maybe you can do a stare and compare to look for differences:

Through real pains taking process, I could make the TBird work on W8 exactly as on W7. This modification made folders and files in the Profile folder quite different from the original. To my pleasant surprise, it still worked on W7. But it is apparent that if a combination of any folder and its sub-folder in Japanese is added to the TBird on W7, then that folders can not be opened on W8.

So, after all it appears I have to wait for the bug to be fixed.

Thanks for trying to help me.

Well at least you were able to find the cause. Might be worth a try to post that issue in the Thunderbird forums and/or there may be a way to send that information directly to the developers as well. Good luck.

I did try Thunderbird forum before I came to this forum. Now I am trying Thunderbird forum for Japanese users. They use Japanese language version of Windows 8 and Thunderbird which is not quite the same as my situation. I will post post back if I get any progress.

The Thunderbird forum for Japanese users could not help. I have decided to use the quasi solution I devised as preveously mentioned. To avoid the problem I just do not create any new folder in Japanese. This is not serious incovenience since W8 is now my main OS.

I have done a lot of experiments since and the following is very puzzling results:

1. On TBird on W7 I created a new account and the associated Profile folder is named NewProfile.
W8 was clean installed and on it TBird was installed(no other app installed). And the profile.ini was edited to point the
NewProfile.
Result: The TBird on the W8 could not open the folder named in Japanese.
2. My relative has machine with the same motherboard, cpu and video card as my machine. English language version of W8 and W7 are installed and TBird profile is shared by TBird on both OS. He does not have the problem of opening folders named in Japanese.
I copied the NewProfile to his machine and tried by using TBird on W8.
Result: The TBird on his W8 could open the folder in Japanese.

The above second result was what was expected because he was not having the same problem as mine but I just wanted to check by using my TBird profile.

I wonder what could be a difference(s) of my machine from his machine that causes the problem.
