Modern Vs. Desktop Internet Explorer

It's probably come up before, but what do you guys think of the modern IE? The makers of my screen reader recommend Jaws users use the desktop version rather than the modern layout because it works the best with the keyboard, so that's what I've been using, but I'm curious about the new version, especially whether it has better video playback than the desktop version or whether it would just be all kinds of inaccessible. I've got it set to always open links in the desktop version, but I think I'd like to play with the modern version to see what it's like. How can I get access to modern IE just for a trial to explore it, but still be able to keep my desktop version as the default?

you can't. if you set any other browser to default, you won't see the Metro IE.

same thing for the Nightly build of Firefox (the Metro version of Firefox). If you don't set it as the default browser, you get regular Firefox.

there's no problem with setting Metro IE as the default browser. you'll still have full access to all your browsers. Firefox is my primary browser but I still have Metro IE as my default browser.

Well I put web sites I like on my desktop and access them that way rather than opening the browser and typing the url in or opening the favorites or bookmarks, so my default browser is the main one I use. I have the desktop IE set as my default I think. I followed the instructions provided by the makers of my screen reader to have it always open links in desktop mode. I guess I can reverse the process to get to play with the other version.

did you ever think of using a newsreader to access some of your favorite sites? That's how I do most of my sites now. Of course, that excludes things like money transactions and shopping. But most of your favorite sites from sports to news to whatever can be done through a newsreader.

I don't know much about newsreaders, I just use the web sites in the regular way. Just to let you know, I did try the modern IE for about five minutes and then I went gratefully back to desktop version. Modern IE suuuuuucks. You can't do anything with the keyboard on that version.

yeah, Modern IE is very touch/mouse centric. not a keyboard haven.

you might like newsreaders. they take away a lot of reason to use the browser. all you have to do is use the search engine in the newsreader and add your favorite sites. the newsreader will then collate the articles, mark the new and old articles. it's like having your websites in almost email format. once you scroll through the new articles and browsed the ones you're actually interested in, you can mark the rest of the articles as read and they disappear.

Actually the main thing I like to do is go to forums and watch Youtube vids, not so much news articles. I pretty much live on YOutube.
