Hi, Read quite a bit about how good the Chrome Browser is I felt I'd like to try it out.
However when downloading it required me to register and then confused me with many additives.
I deleted/uninstalled it.
Is it possible to download and use Chrome as a straightforward simple browser without registration and all the other nonsense?
If not I'll just stick with my reliable Waterfox.
Thanks.

I have a home recording studio. I downloaded Chrome (in Windows 7) and it also installed an automatic updater program (for Chrome). The update program interferred with my recording uses (I had spikes when I ran the DPC Latency Checker) and had clicks and dropouts in my recording and playback. I uninstalled Chrome, using Revo Uninstaller that also will allow uninstalling left over registry and folder files, but that did not uninstall the updater program. I tried several things to get the updater uninstalled, including a System Restore, but finally had to manually edit the registry and delete everything I could find related to Google and the updater (many items).

Because of the Win 7 problems, I have not installed Chrome in Win 8.

The automatic updater with google chrome is the main reason I went in search of a different chromium browser. I tried chrome on an old dell laptop with XP and the updater was using a good portion of of my systems resources. I was stuttering, hanging, and freezing all day. Dragon has a very easy opt out for the updates, which is nice....Like I said, I'm a big fan of dragon

Chrome is a simple install and no registration is required.

What you saw, is the ability to log into Chrome and then browser stuff (add-ons, bookmarks, etc) are saved to the cloud. This sync feature is fantastic. I use it on my computers at home and at work. Therefore, when I launch chrome, I have all of my bookmarks, my history, my bookmark bar and my add-ons no matter where I am.

You can elect to NOT use the sign in and just use Chrome locally...which is what you say you want.

Hi and thank you all for the prompt replies & advice. I'll certainly give 'Dragon' a look and also re-try Chrome locally.
Cheers.

Reference the Windows 8 remarks by 'pparks1'; I do like W8 although I use it basically as per W7 but I have not restored the old Start Button as I like the new Start Page with it's ability to be personalized - a vast improvement on the Start Menu in my opinion. However, as you say it's what suits you is the most important thing.

Download it from Google https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/?hl=en

The first page you get at the first run is for login and using the autosync. You can ignore and close it if you want.

The other page with many icons like Docs, Gmail, Store, etc are simply shortcuts to Google services. You can delete them if you want or click the left arrow button to show a list of most visited sites.

IMO it's the best browser out there, and the mentioned autosync feature is almost a must have.
