Links in Mail not opening IE?

Even though I have IE set to my default browser on my Win8 desktop, when I click on a link in a Mail message, nothing happens. If I manually use the Task Switcher to switch over to IE, then the link opens. This problem does not seem to be happening on my Surface RT. Is there an additional setting somewhere that I'm missing that will address this.
