Has anyone got any other browsers to install on the Dev Preview?

I tried Chrome and Opera, neither would install.

Edit: Please note if you have Win8 Dev installed as VHD or standard, dual boot etc.

I read on another forum that installing a different browser broke their Metro interface...I assume this was only a temporary problem because, after all, this IS a Developer Preview. The Metro apps are very tightly bound to IE.

Can you confirm that everything else is still working OK?

Can you confirm that everything else is still working OK?

Metro UI is still working as intended just like it did when I first installed DP.

I'm most likely going to guess those people disabled IE via Windows Features, which then most likely broke Metro.

Has anyone else installed Win8 in VirtualBox?

VB may be the reason I'm having issues, tried Run as Admin, XP and Win7 compatibility mode, not set as default browser, no icons, still won't install.

have another look in start or Search. I only had Firefox and IE installed. After your post I installed Chrome and Opera. I now have all (automatically selected) in my Start?

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
I came to the forum hoping to find a way to kill IE10.... first thing I do on any machine that doesnt have FF or GC is, install either. I cant stand IE at all. Nothing works, not even the 8 year old girl trick. (0.0.0.0) I can handle MetroIE I think Windows should stay grounded on the hard drive, inside its house with WINDOWS and not be gallivanting about on the internets, I leave that to the information conveyancing professionals.

So... in the meantime while I look for something...

Ive had massive and awesome success with all browsers -- I have installed Opera a couple times, it ran fine. Ive installed Chrome maybe about 30 times since July and not one installation went amok. All have worked as advertised. Firefox has been installed about maybe 20-23 times and sometimes it just disappears, but is resolved with a reinstall. No problems for me. Win8 is a great great system, its like the most perfect OS to date, and cant beat the boot time. I just need to incarcerate the IE10.

Cheers

Hi there
Can't understand what all the problem is with IE10. It works just fine -- perhaps you are trying too many addons etc.

You won't be able to kill it anyway -- basically it's "Windows explorer" which is part of the Windows kernel with IE access enabled.

If you don't believe me just go into Windows Explorer and type in an internet URL.

As far as browsers are concerned there are plenty available -- choose the one you like. Personally for basic simple quick browsing I like Opera and Google Chrome is coming up "fast on the rails". It is improving fast and the new login feature with profiles etc is a great idea too.

Cheers
