Others now unable to open emails made from Word '10...

I have, only recently been told that it has been extremely difficult for those to whom I have sent emails to open them. I use office '10, which sometimes saves in '07...maybe because the original documents were 2003?
The ISP is Aol and I use Firefox. Previous to the changeover to Win8, there were no problems. Any ideas?

the person who you are sending to do they have installed the Office Compatability Tool?

they need it if they are receiving office 2010 documents and have office 2003 or office 2007

If they do not want to install it then you must save the file for the 2003 format as you see in the pic below

That's nice and sensible, ...but surely 'Macro saps' should have thought of this little gem and updated it into EVERY MS computer to foresee and overcome the problem...meanwhile, there are clients being lost because they can't open a simple email...!

that would be too easy
Just go to the website- copy and paste the url into an email to the ones who cannot open your 2010 documents, excel files, etc and tell them to get the tool- it is free

Or
you can just remember to save it in the format .doc and the xl format like 2003

I'm still using Office 03 with SP2 in W8, could somebody send me a 2010 word doc? I'd like to test it out just to test MS's update. Please pm me if anybody would be so kind.

Update: The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack has been updated to include SP2. Additionally, with the updated Compatibility Pack, if .DOCX or .DOCM files contain custom XML tags, those tags are removed when the file is opened in Word 2003. For more information, please see KB978951
