Solved Outlook access from Windows 8 desktop

Just installed Windows 8 (upgrade from Windows 7) on my 3 year old PC - all seems OK.
I have been using Microsoft Office Outlook for many years and also Gmail for family purposes. I prefer not to change over to Hotmail, or Windows Live and I cannot seem to find a way to access Outlook and Gmail from the Metro tiles. However if I return to my Windows 7 desktop I have no problem, but that doesn't help me to get used to Win 8 OS and move on - any simple suggestions?
Thanks in anticipation OzOldguy.

Hi Shawn,
Very quick response, and many thanks for your advice - an Outlook tile now adorns my Win 8 desktop and opens up my inbox - great work! You have solved that problem for me.

However, no luck with Gmail - on searching I get 'no apps match your search" and all I can find are other Google programs - through which I can navigate, but I was hoping to get direct to my inbox or at least to the login page. Is this possible?

Also to get to this forum I have to search IE and navigate to this page each time - I seem not to be able to minimise the window for later use - do you know of a tutorial which may help me to understand the process of minimising or returning to a window?
Kind regards, OzOldguy.

You're welcome.

If you like, you could add your Google account to Outlook to access your gmail there as well.

You could also "Pin to Start" the Google website to have one on the Start screen that opens directly to the online Google gmail inbox.

If this is in IE10 Metro, then you could use switcher to go back and forth to it and say the desktop.
