using IE which is 64 bit so java and flash will be 64 bit versions.

but i also use firefox and chrome both are 32 bit. Do I also need 32 bit java, and re Non IE flash do i download 32 bit flash as per browsers or go for 64 bit as the system is 64 bit

Actually, Java: NO you don't need both 64 and 32 if the 64 already works fine.
You do the Java stuff in the 64 browser and there is no need to reduce security even more by installing another one in 32 bit also.

For Flash: see post above, each browser needs another package IE (one) the rest of browsers (two).
Opera, Firefox, Chrome and others use the same (Non-IE) installer package.

thanks everyone spent all day and evening downloading updating and figuring things out what a nightmare but got most things sorted now except these apps squares uninstalled a lot of them and made the rest smaller. how do you close one once it has opened ? my workaround is put the mouse to top of centre screen and drag down it then shrinks and i drag it off the screen, then click lower blank screen to get the squares up then desktop app to get started again. [is there an easier way?]

samsung came with some handy bits one program that updates all drivers, another that opens in a startmenu box great for finding and opening software, wish i had played with these items earlier.

no idea how people with no intrest in computers get started.
