I am running Windows 8 on an HP laptop.
I have downloaded flash 11 and Firefox 18. When I try to run either the flash installer or the FF setup file from the download folder on my computer, nothing happens The files will not open.
I disabled my virus software in case that was causing a conflict but that didn't help
Can anyone help? thanks

Hello Barcann,

You might see if using the standalone installer for Adobe Flash Player (Plugin-based browsers) version may work better for you with Firefox.

Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe
Hope this helps, :)

What AV program do you have installed?

You might add the Adobe .exe or .msi file to it's exception list (if an available option) to see if that may help.

I have Norton installed. I do not know how to add anything to an exception list.
I tried right clicking the files and run as an administrator.. when I do that, the pop up window asking if I want to allow this program to make changes ... appears. I click yes..nothing happens...
it goes no further
I am running Norton. I have that disabled.
something will not allow me to install either FF update or flash Player (any version).
also when I try installing Flash player as a plug in through the browser ( FF 16) it downloads and starts the install, and then just hangs... never completes the install

thanks

thanks so much for your help. I removed..I think..Norton.. the Norton removal tool actually hung up at removing folder trees and I had to reboot.
but I was able to run some install programs including Flash 11 and Ad-Aware, which is now protecting my computer.
so I think it was Norton all the time.

Great news.

If you like, the included Windows Defender in Windows 8 is a good AV program to use.

Firefox 19 beta works better for me than FF 18. Just saying
