Win 8 will not let me install Thunderbird.
yes it will, you need to turn off smart filtering in IE, then when it tells you it will not allow you to install again, say Run it anyway, then it will allow you to download it and install
I do not use IE. I use FF. but I downloaded the install file and it is in my download folder. when I click to open it, nothing happens.
usually a box pops up, asking if I want to let the file have access. this does not happen with Thunderbird.
try right clicking on the file and go to start ,if that doesn't work, download the file again
, i just downloaded the file from the link below ,when i cilicked on the file it had to unzip/unpack ,to get to the install/setup file ,make sure thats not happening to you in behind the folder you have the file in
also try right clicking and install as an administrator, see if that works
thanks everyone for your help.. run as administrator worked
Solved thanks to Robinb9. Big thanks to her.
The problem seemed to be 'running un-install does not completely UN-INSTALL!!! (Why I ask myself?)
One has to do all sorts of additional clean up after the un-install.
I now seem to have Windows Live Mail working on Windows 8.
I am a more happy user, On to the next problems.
