Hello
When I want to send a page I am viewing to a friend, I used to click file>scroll to send> click 'link by email' and the link would go to my friend's inbox. Now those choices "link by email and page by email" are grayed out.
To remediate that in Win 7 I used to go to default programs and the grayed terms became black and it functioned.
For days now I have tried that. I right clicked the top of a page and selected 'link by email' and added it to the right in the customize box. When I tried it said I don't have an email program, which I do, or I have to set the default or file association. A year ago I tried the file association and made an awful error so I need to sure.
I have been copying and pasting the URL in the friend's inbox which is awkward.
I am an average user but if you could please help me with this I would be very thankful.
Thank you
Peter
Hello
When I answered the questions to set up Win 8, Windows seemed to grasp everything. Example my sign in is my Hotmail address and the password is for this Hotmail one. I don't like that as I might have to change both sometime in my email program and I don't know if it would influence my signing in. If you know please advise.
But to answer your question, I have a live account which is basically Hotmail.
I used to have WLM with Win 7.
I also have a Comcast account and a Gmail account. I think I need a program that installs in the machine and not web based, correct? I think Comcast needs some port changes I am not familiar with.
Maybe that means Thunderbird?
I appreciate your help as Win 8 has some areas a little rough on average users.
Peter
you can download window essentials and use windows live mail for hotmail accts as before ,set the acct you want to use as default ,if you have more than one email acct Windows Essentials: Other Programs

WLE will allow you to do multible ISP Accounts including live mail and comcast.
For comcast the only thing you need to do is change the port for the smtp to 587
then all should be fine

First, Caperjack, thank you for the link to Windows Live Essentials; the advisor that tells you what is compatible with Win 8 said WLE is not compatible if I upgraded. I did a clean install. Do you think it will be compatible after the installation of Win 8? I'd hate to install then have incompatibility issues.
Secondly, Robin9, thank you for the information about Comcast's port. Do you have any knowledge as to how you access this port to change it?
Peter2 thanks for the kudo's ,i knew about it because i use it .and like it even . good luck ,and happy computing
I don't know about you but I used to send a link which was blue so the recipient could just click on it and get to the site I referred them to.
Now the link is black and needs to be a copy/paste to the address bar.
It still works.
Comcast said they do not have information this far ahead.
I was hoping you had a suggestion to refine this feature although I'll gladly take it as it is.
