I installed some windows 8 updates on Sunday, 12/2. Prior to these updates, IE was working perfectly. Now I get this error: "This page can't be displayed" when launching IE. Also, when launching IE via the new interface, it jumps to the desktop, launches IE and I get the "This page can't be displayed" error. So the new browser interface does not work now.
I rolled back to a disk image prior to these updates and launched IE via the new interface and I get the new browser. I exited by pressing the Windows key. I exited to the desktop and launched IE off the toolbar. It worked once and only once. So now I get this error: "This page can't be displayed" Both Firefox and Chrome work perfectly.
Now I am amazed that there are such a number of reports on the internet regarding this matter and there is no solution. I have tried everything there is to try as suggested on this forum.
So because I am developing some software and have to verify workability in all three browsers, I am going to delete this piece of junk OS and go back to Windows 7. This so-called upgrade has cost me a lot of time and money. Goodbye Windows 8.
