This page can't be displayed IE 10 problem

I'm at my wits end. I can't get past the problem of "This page can't be displayed" in IE 10 unless I enable "Enhanced Protection Mode", then I loose my toolbars. When I first installed Windows 8, I had no problems with IE10, then one day about a week ago, it just stopped working. I've done all things that the troubleshooter said to do, but that didn't work, I even uninstalled the updates that were installed the night before, I even did a system restore, and then uninstalled updates. What the heck is going on, does anyone know?

I have the same problem - occurred at about the same time as well. I've uninstalled IE then reinstalled it. Still no luck. Both Chrome and Mozilla browsers work fine - just IE doesn't work.

Enabling "EPM" forces IE10 to run in native 64bit mode and in an AppContainer sandbox, meaning it's likely a 32bit add-on you have installed. If it fails running normally but works with enhanced protected mode enabled, then it's an add-on problem - disabling add-ons in IE10 would probably help, although it'll be a bit of trial and error if you have lots of them.

No - that doesn't work either. I've disabled all add on and it still won't work unless EPM is enabled. Noticed that even Firefox and Chrome will do it after awhile. I have to do a system restore to get them to work. Of coarse I tried a bunch of things and that might have screw up Chrome and Firefox, I just letting it set and the only thing that I've done is what I've said above.

re: Windows 8 pro I have the same problems you are describing. This happened after a windows update. Page can't be displayed in IE. IS there no solution to this problem? I have tried all of the above and much more. Firefox and Chrome work perfectly.

Is it a virus?

Try going to Installed Updates, start uninstalling updates one by one starting from the latest one and see whether it fixes the problem, alternatively, you can also try a system restore.

I know which MS updates caused this problem - the ones I installed yesterday. I have a disk image that I am going to restore one day prior to this.

I restored yesterday's disk image (I am using Acronis Backup) and the IE problem went away. So it is associated with MICROSOFT's UPDATES. Unbelievable! So I do an update and lose IE. Wonderful.

Yeah, but if you read my original post, I already uninstalled all updates, but I did that after I did a system restore to a previous restore point. I don't have any updates to uninstall save the ones a month before this all happened, while I was still using Windows 7.

The problem is, Microsoft doesn't recompile Windows every time you install it or get an update. I'm running the exact same codebase as you on many machines, and I don't have these problems. So while you are having a problem after installing updates (and I don't doubt you've narrowed it down to that), if it really was a problem with the update we should all be having these problems. Just something to think about.

This may be so, but what is causing the problem with others? There has to be an answer, for there are too many users that have this problem and many that don't. Just because the ones that don't experience it, doesn't constitute that there is not a problem. I feel that we should all concentrate our efforts on this problem for the one's that do experience it. (IMHO)

okay, now a new problem. Im having to use another computer to write this, for the one who has the problem now tells me, "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer". So what gives, this really makes me think that there's a virus. Any ideas?

cluberti do you have Chrome or Firefox installed on any of your PC's?

I am just curious, cause I have Win8 on my laptop now and with all updates as you do and IE works fine for me as well.
My first finger would point to Chrome, if it is ever set as the default browser, it will break IE. And web links in Outlook.

Really??!! I've got both, but I've never set them as default. I wonder if cluberti has them or not, in fact, I wonder if any of the others that have posted, having the same problem as I, have? I know that some do, for they have said that "Chrome and Firefox work just fine".
Well, I couldn't wait on an answer, but I'm still curious as to the cause, so I wiped my system and started from scratch. No problem yet.

I have chrome for Win8 installed, and things seem to be working no matter which is the default browser.

Not sure if this will help anyone or not, but I was having the same "This page can't be displayed" issue. I found that resetting IE, Unsetting the protected mode option in the security tab and running with no add-ons did not work for me. However I noticed the computer had the babylon toolbar crap on it. I removed the babylon software and an app that came with it called sendori. After removing babylon and sendori IE started working again. I find this interesting considering I ran IE in no add-on mode and it still had the page display issue, yet after uninstalling these apps it is resolved.. Wierd. Hope that helps someone.

This did help me. I ran into the same issue where IE10 on Windows 7 couldn't load any websites.
I resolved it by uninstalling the sendori app.

Thanks!
