Hi all. I am a newbie here so firstly a big hello.

I use Outlook 2010 and now running a new install of Windows 8 Pro (64 bit). All is well and no issues so far.

I have just purchased the Nokia Lumia 820 Windows 8 phone and want to sync my Outlook 2010 with my Nokia Lumia 820.

It seems i am unable to do this. I find it very strange - MS to MS?

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Hello and welcome!

Outlook isn't really used for syncing items over to Windows Phone. To get things like contacts to sync over to your Windows Phone (very good choice by the way ;)) you will need to use Outlook.com (with your MSN, Windows Live, or Hotmail, it's the same as the email account you used to sign into your Windows Phone) to manage those things. It's basically powered by the cloud, so if you make a new contact in your People hub, that should sync over to Outlook 2010 and to your People web app in Outlook.com

I know, it's ridiculous that a Microsoft phone can't sync with Microsoft Outlook without going through the cloud. They are well aware people aren't happy about it as there have been a lot of people complaining, but they choose to ignore us.

I'm OK at the moment as I've hung onto a Symbian phone, but for those of us who refuse to use cloud services will just give Microsoft phones the wide birth when we need a new phone.

Thanks guys about typical for Microsoft. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to make a small app. It's bad news when you can sync your iPhone but not windows.

Thanks again

@ COKE ROBOT - Hi Andy. Thanks for the info. Would you be able to assist further please?
I have a new laptop with windows 8 Pro (64bit) pre-installed. I usually stick to HP laptops but for a change i have chosen the ASUS N56V with 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, i7 Quad Core CPU.

Anyway to the assistance. I use MS Office Pro 2010 and OUTLOOK is my email. Of course all my contacts, calendars, email all work very nicely together. In my contacts i have pictures of most of the contacts. Also my Calendar has 2yrs of data, mainly for 12 months back and 12 months forward. To include things like mobile contract end times (i have a few).

I have the Nokia Lumia 820 and need to sync with outlook.
Can you run thru the process please. I have opened an OUTLOOK.COM account and having trouble importing data as it keeps saying file too big. Also tried the calanders, all i am getting is birthdays/anniversaries. No other data and not only that but it seems to limit me to a few months before and after.

So i require help in that area and also what do i do to make my email run like yours seems to be doing, nice and smooth?

I was looking to pm you but couln't figure it out.
Regards Tony (UK)
