Hi,
I was watching videos on the Microsoft I.E. website and notice that when they click on the app icon on the metro desktop, it opens something different than what happens on my computer.

On there's it seems to open full screen and the URL bar is at the bottom, mine looks just like I.E. 9

I've checked the about screen when I open I.E. and it tells me that it is indeed I.E. 10.

How do I accomplish opening it as an app like what is shown on the Microsoft I.E. videos of I.E. 10?

Thanks

You have metro IE 10 and desktop IE 10. They are completely different, in metro, IE 10 is the IE app.

So why doesn't the I.E. 10 app version open when I click on my I.E. icon that was on my metro screen from Win 8 installation?

Jalida, when you open the IE 10 ap, go to the url at the bottom and types in Google.com. That will open a series of panels that show your favorite bookmarks AND take you to Google, where you can get stuff done. A little tricky, but it works. To be honest, I prefer the Desktop IE 10.

actually, this is the first time I noticed this since going from the enterprise evaluation version to the final pro version.

yes, whenever I click on Internet Explorer on the start screen, it loads up the desktop version of IE. how do I recover the metro version?

When I click on "E" metro app it opens in the metro style. In desktop mode it opens just fine as well.

For what it's worth, the usual reason for the symptom of clicking on the modern/metro IE icon and getting desktop IE is that you've changed the default browser to something else, like Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc. There can only ever be one default browser, and that is the only browser allowed to open a modern/metro browser window (even if it doesn't install one, like the stable version of Firefox). You can go to the Default Programs applet in the desktop Control Panel and set IE back to the default, which should "fix" the modern browser behavior, but that does then set it as the default browser.

Okay, so if I have this correct, I have to make I.E. default browser again to get this to work?

If so I guess I'll just do without it, I like having Chrome at my Internet disposal when ever I want to go to the Internet.

Thanks though for the info.

Yes, that is correct. There can only ever be ONE modern/metro browser active at any one time, and that is determined by which default browser you've set. If you use Chrome, just make sure you use their Windows 8 installer, and you get the modern version of Chrome as well when you set it as the default. Pretty cool if you're a Chrome user to have a modern/metro version of Chrome to use!

To run IE 10 in metro mode (as an app) follow the screen below.
You will need to set IE as your default browser.
In step three I have mine check for desktop mode has I preferred this, but if you wish to run as an app just uncheck the box.
Remember if you run IE from Desktop it will open in desktop mode
